Collaboration with India

NCM is involved in a collaboration with researchers in the field of Mathematics Education, and Mathematicians all over India. This collaboration was initiated by former Indian Ambassador to Sweden, Mr. Balkrishna Shetty (photo) – himself a trained mathematician – and the NCM Director from 1999 till 2012, Professor Bengt Johansson.
It has resulted in two conferences organised by NCM so far, the first being held in Gothenburg in June 2010 – First Meeting of the Indo-Swedish Working Group on Mathematics Education”. During the conference, discussions were held on issues such as ”Indian and Swedish education systems and the main challenges”; ”Curricula and syllabi”; ”Teachers’ professional development (CPD)”; ”Assessment culture and competitive exams” and ”Use of technology”.
A second conference was held at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai, India in February 2011.
Read an article about the collaboration and the 2011 conference (only in Swedish).
A third conference is planned, again to be held in Sweden, in March 2013.

The NCM website also keeps track of interesting articles published on Indian mathematics education. Go for the list, constantly updated.
