The School focuses research and eduction on professions in the field of health, care and social welfare. It has 3000 students who are studying Caring Science with specialization in Nursing, Health Care Education, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Public Health Sciences, Social Work, Sociology and/or Work Science. Activities such as seminars, collaborative applications for research funding and other developmental activities in research settings are managed by the research environment leaders. The research cluster includes eleven full professors, 50 PhD lecturers, including 18 associate professors, and ca. 40 students enrolled in PhD programs. The researchers co-operate with national and international research environments and universities. Apart from these, there are a number of researchers from other academies at Mälardalen University who are affiliated with the area of health and welfare and the overall university venture, the Collaboration arena of health and welfare technology, which started in January 2014.

Usha Varghese and Sneha Pite together with  Dr. Asmita Wele, Director, International Students’ Center, and Professor Shivajirao Kadam, Vice Chancellor at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University.

The School of Health, Care and Social Welfare has launched a Linnaeus Palme collaboration programme with Sharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University in Pune, India. At the onset, two faculty members; from Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Dr. Usha Varghese, Associate Professor, Social Sciences Centre and Dr Sneha Pitre, Director, Nursing College visited Mälardalen University for a duration of three weeks in the month of October 2015. Subsequently two faculty members from Mälardalen University will be visiting Bharati Vidyapeeth in the month of February 2016 for a period of three weeks under the same programme. The current program seeks to promote international understanding among global universities through professional development and cross-cultural exchange. Read more.
For the year 2015/16 it was granted SEK 55 071 as initial funding f
