The core of the collection is made up of approximately 270 volumes by or about Gandhi donated to SASNET by Haellquist before his death and now known as The Karl Reinhold Haellquist Memorial Collection (KRHMC). The collection, which is housed in the Asia Library of Lund University, was formally inaugurated by the Indian Ambassador to Sweden, The Honorable Balkrishna Shetty, on 10 September 2009. On that occasion, the Ambassador took the opportunity of donating another set of Mahatma Gandhi literature to Lund University and SASNET on behalf of the Indian government. It has now been incorporated in the KRHMC.

The collection reflects Haellquist's lifelong interest in Gandhi and includes such works as Gandhi: Prisoner of Hope by Judith M. Brown, Mahatma: Life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi by D. G. Tendulkar, a major portion of the multivolume Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi, and numerous individual publications by Gandhi, such as Hind Swaraj, or, Indian Home Rule, An Autobiography, or, The Story of My Experiments with Truth, Hindu Dharma, Communal Unity, and many others. A number of the books contain review clippings and other notes.
